When I was about 8 years old, I had this ecstatic desire to blast my favorite part of a song, over and over, on my bedroom speakers. By doing this I also created the worst earworm for myself on the next day of school, every time... But I could never grow tired of the music. What can I say—I’m a sucker for carefully created sonics.
Shortly after that time period, Vine popularized the perfect loop, which inspired me to splice more of my own. Since then, I have created many loops from favorite songs that I draw to. This site contains a selection of them.
Loops are nothing special; they are both a practice tool and construction piece for a musician. They define genres, so on and so forth. But for me, they are a way to park on a certain emotion while I work or when I dabble. For many people, that concept wouldn’t work at all, and probably would drive them mad...
Maybe loops are just the echoes I’ve chosen to keep. Or maybe they’re how I make sense of the noise—by turning it into rhythm...
